A statement from ILCAO regarding the fire on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at the Applewood Apartments complex in Proctorville:
Firefighters responded to an alarm in a non-residential unit at our Applewood Apartments complex. While investigating, they encountered what has been described as a backdraft, resulting in two firefighters being transported to the hospital for evaluation. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
There was no significant damage to the building. Residents of all but two units have been able to return to their homes; those units require further inspection and final clearance from the fire marshal. We remain deeply grateful to all the first responders, the ILCAO Housing staff who responded quickly, and the Red Cross for providing temporary shelter to the resident awaiting clearance.
