ILCAO’s Housing Management team revitalizes Lawrence County One-Stop

The Lawrence County One-Stop Center, a supportive services hub for members of the community, is back to serving clients to its full capacity thanks to some updates made by ILCAO’s Housing Management team. These renovations have not only given the One-Stop a fresh look, but they also ensure it remains a functional and welcoming space for staff and clients alike.

Paving the way for visitors and clients

One of the major renovations undertaken by the ILCAO team was the resealing of the Lawrence County One-Stop’s parking lot, which also included a complete restriping. This overhaul was driven by the need to protect the blacktop surface from wear and tear, which had been adding up quickly over the summer, while enhancing its appearance. This task, however, was far from simple.

The Lawrence County One-Stop sees a constant stream of visitors and clients, making it challenging to close off sections of the parking lot during regular business hours. To minimize disruption, the team chose to tackle this project over a weekend. It was a two-day process, with the first day dedicated to applying the sealer and allowing it to cure, followed by the striping on the second day. It was a large project that required perseverance and a lot of hard work in the summer heat.

Dedicated and hard-working team members

The success of this project, as well as its quick turnaround, speaks to the commitment and teamwork of the individuals involved. Two ILCAO Housing Management maintenance technicians, Jason Nance and Ralph Marshall, volunteered their weekends for this demanding task. Additionally, three other staff — Dylon Taylor, Steven Earl, and Nick Ferrell — also rose to the occasion, offering their weekends to work despite the sun.

Rob Esque, who is the vehicle and facilities specialist at the One-Stop Center, also played a major role by volunteering to ensure the parking lot remained free of cars on both Saturday and Sunday.

According to ILCAO Housing Director Ron Henderson, “They all did an extremely good job, and the results speak for themselves. This is TEAM work at its best!”

A solution to a difficult roof leak

Beyond the parking lot, the Lawrence County One-Stop faced another challenge, a progressively difficult roof leak. Diagnosing the source of the leak proved to be difficult as the roofing company and HVAC company each pointed fingers at the other. Meanwhile, ceiling tiles suffered damage, and the inconvenience of water dripping onto the floor persisted.

However, once again, the ILCAO Housing & Maintenance team showed their commitment and willingness to problem-solve. Jason Nance, an ILCAO Housing Management Maintenance Technician, joined forces with Rob Esque, and together, they worked as detectives. Through their efforts, they uncovered the source of the mysterious leak and made the necessary repairs. This problem-solving not only prevented further damage but also ensured the comfort and safety of those using the One-Stop’s services.

Thank you to the Housing Management team!

From revitalizing the parking lot to solving a progressively difficult roof leak, the dedication and hard work of ILCAO’s Housing Maintenance team has revitalized the Lawrence County One-Stop Center. Their efforts ensure that the Lawrence County One-Stop remains a welcoming and functional space for all.
