ILCAO’s Family Medical Centers celebrate National Health Center Week

The Ironton-Lawrence Community Action Organization’s (ILCAO’s) Family Medical Centers (FMC) joined the nationwide celebration of National Health Center Week, honoring the role of community health centers in supporting a stronger nation. From August 7–11, FMC hosted a series of community-focused events and activities across its eight locations in Lawrence County.

This year’s National Health Center Week was designed with the theme “Community Health Centers – The Roadmap to a Stronger America,” emphasizing the important role community health centers play in promoting the overall well-being of communities. The week-long celebration aimed to express appreciated to committed staff, honor patients, and recognize the significant contributions made by community health centers.

“This week was all about our patients, our staff, and our community,” says Assistant Director of FMC Operations Amy Jones. “We are so very happy to serve, and we are proud of the excellent work our staff do in our health centers.”

During the event, FMC staff were treated to small gifts as a way of recognizing their commitment to providing high-quality health care services to the community. Patients were not left out either, as a special Patient Appreciation Day was held, featuring the distribution of candy and other treats to express FMC’s gratitude for the community’s trust and support.

A table decorating contest was organized on Thursday, with ILCAO’s community board members serving as judges. The contest fostered collaboration among the FMC team, offered information to patients, and highlighted the bond between the centers and the community they serve.

According to event organizers, FMC’s Community Health Centers Week saw participation from several groups, which was a success; however, the overall takeaway was even greater.

“We were happy to see so much participation. Staff, patients, and the community all joined in, and it was a lot of fun,” says Jones, “But this week’s also activities united us and reminded us of our commitment to building a healthier, stronger community. It’s important for us to keep our focus on that mission, and events like this help us do that.”
