ILCAO’s Family Medical Centers earns Gold Seal of Approval, Accreditation, and Certification from The Joint Commission
The Ironton-Lawrence Community Action Organization’s Family Medical Centers have earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Ambulatory Health Care, as well as Behavioral Health Care and Human Services Accreditation, by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care. In addition, Family Medical Centers have again been certified with Primary Care Medical Home (PCMH) status.
Family Medical Centers underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review from June 15-18, 2021. During the visit, a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with Ambulatory Health Care, Behavioral Health Care and Human Services, and PCMH standards spanning several areas including emergency management, environment of care, infection prevention and control, leadership, provider credentialing and privileging, medication management, and rights and responsibilities of the individual.
The Joint Commission’s standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help health care organizations measure, assess, and improve performance. The surveyors also conducted onsite observations and interviews.
“As a private accreditor, The Joint Commission surveys health care organizations to protect the public by identifying deficiencies in care and working with those organizations to correct them as quickly and sustainably as possible,” says Mark Pelletier, RN, MS, chief operating officer, Accreditation and Certification Operations, and chief nursing executive, The Joint Commission. “We commend Family Medical Centers for its continuous quality improvement efforts in patient safety and quality of care.”
According to Family Medical Centers’ Director of Clinical Services, Nancy Lewis, “We commend our staff for their daily efforts to ensure that the ILCAO Family Medical Centers represent the best in infection control, risk management, proper documentation, attention to patient privacy, and a hundred other details that ensure that we are the best we can be. We appreciate everything our staff do to keep us in ongoing compliance, to ensure we are living our mission, and to provide the very best patient care in each of our disciplines.”
Lewis continued, “In addition, we are very grateful to have achieved full accreditation in ambulatory health care and behavioral health care as well as receiving certification as Primary Care Medical Home providers. We are very proud of our Joint Commission accreditation, and believe it reflects the high-quality of care we are committed to providing our community.”
